I was experiencing joint pain in one of my legs and unable to walk and exercise any length of time. A hip replacement followed.

The simple act of bending over to pick up a bag of groceries triggered my lower back to go into a complete spasm. I’ve had lower back pain before, but this one was full-blown and put me in so much pain that not even a prescription pain killer provided any relief.

I started coming to Dr. Saint in March of 2003, at the invitation and urging of several friends who are patients here.

I have suffered from migraines, which are often quite debilitating, for 23 years give or take a year.

Over the past 14 years I have tried most everything out there for relief from the pain, including biofeedback and electrical stimulation, 35 + prescription and non-prescription drugs, magnet therapy, elimination diets, vitamins, herbs and others.

While some of these treatments helped in the short term nothing has worked for the long haul.

Since coming to Dr. Saint my migraines have improved greatly and my outlook on life in general is much brighter! My daughter, age 6, was seen multiple times at the Center for Child Development having a complete audiological evaluation. She has normal hearing on the left side. However, on the right side, she was diagnosed with a non-compliant middle ear system (Type B tympanogram). The right hearing had progressed into the severe hearing loss and needed medical attention. The audiologist recommended she have an otolaryngological evaluation.

The first doctor, an Otolaryngologist (ENT), insisted my daughter needed multiple surgical procedures to correct the problem. My husband was seeing Dr. Saint for headaches, I mentioned my daughter’s condition and he said to bring her in to see if it could help. Dr. Saint brought out the teddy bear and talked to my daughter. When she felt comfortable, he began the adjustment.

After the end of the second week, my daughter commented the ocean was out of her ear. The pressure that had built up was now decreasing. By the end of the forth week she could clear her own ears. By the end of the sixth week, she could hear things she had been missing for years. We went back to the Otolaryngologist and she had perfect hearing in both ears. This was the first hearing test my daughter passed! She went back to the Center for Child Development and passed. My daughter is hearing in both ears without surgery. My daughter loves to go see Dr. Saint because it’s fun, but most of all because she likes being able to hear.

Excruciating sciatica pain left me crying whenever I had to drive just a few miles. It kept me from being able to sit at my desk job and perform my job duties, as well as caused me to miss some important work meetings due to my inability to commute any distance, nor to sit for long periods of time. I had to cancel lunch dates and other social interactions. I would go to work, return home, and go straight to bed, because lying down or walking were the only things that weren’t painful.

I didn’t want to take any type of drugs, like many people have stated they do when sciatica flares up. That only masks the pain and fills one’s liver with toxins. What could be better than lying down for gentle decompression with a machine doing the work, while you laugh and watch “Everyone Loves Raymond” or “Seinfeld” episodes sans commercials!

Their treatment worked, and now I feel even better than I did before the sciatica flared up! Plus, I gained an added bonus of getting my abs and core more toned and strengthened.

I have three herniations in the lower back, which has left me with reduced range of motion and pain. The DRX treatments have significantly reduced pain and increased my range of motion.

My back problems began approximately 6 years ago. Since then my back problems and pain have become increasingly worse. I have been through chiropractic care and physical therapy from a variety of different doctors and facilities but nothing seemed to have resolved my problems in the long term.

I had been a low back pain sufferer for many years…and reached a point where it was unbearable. Additionally, I had numbness going down my left leg and into my foot. I went from being extremely active to a virtual invalid. I could not stand up for any period of time and I could not walk more than 20 feet without having to stop and brace myself to allow some of the pain to subside and then go another 20 feet and do it all over again. I am a 51 year old female, generally healthy and fit. One morning three years ago, I became an invalid. I was unable to sit, use the bathroom, walk, or perform any basic movements involving my lower back and the left hip and leg. Pharmaceuticals dulled the pain somewhat, but ruined my digestive system. It was a very lonely time.

I was not bruised, not bleeding, not swollen, but unable to function with a constant debilitating and agonizing pain. An MRI revealed two herniated discs.

A series of three epidurals helped for a year, but a ride on a bike brought the fury of the pain back in a day. I am 66 years old and have experienced lower back pains for many years. Three years ago my back pains increased to the point that I could barely walk and couldn’t play golf or do everyday tasks. After physical therapy and the spinal decompression, I am able to walk and exercise more which will hopefully continue to improve my back problems. All the therapists at Montvale Health were very caring and attentive to my condition and I would especially like to thank Mara and Tom for their help.

I am 26 years old. Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve always remembered having back pains. The constant aching and muscle twitching became part of my daily life.…I got to a point where simple physical therapy was not enough to help ease the pain. I had an unbearable pain of tightening muscles and pinching nerves that caused major discomfort. I was then diagnosed with a compressed disc on my lower spine and was told that I would need to be put on the DRX 9000. This was the machine that I was told would pull my spine to help decompress my disc. Sounds scary, I know, but it wasn’t at all what I expected it to be.

Six weeks of DRX 9000 helped take my discomfort away. Each session is about 30-45 minutes long and all I did was lie down, watch a show on the TV screen and relaxed. An orthopedic doctor said the only option to alleviate my pain was a surgical procedure. I couldn’t go to work because of the constant pain down my leg, so I had to take 12 weeks short-term disability from my job.

Before having surgery, I wanted to check into any other options available. I asked a chiropractor that I knew and trusted to look at my MRI and offer a second opinion. After reading the MRI results, she suggested a treatment called Spinal Decompression Therapy…that had a high percent success rate and that I should have a consultation with Dr. Saint.

Dr. Saint was very encouraging and started me on the DRX 9000. After approximately eight treatments on the machine (2 weeks), my pain lessoned and stopped. It was great to see how this treatment worked and I felt much better! I went to the orthopedic doctor for a follow-up visit in which he was quite amazed at my recovery since last seeing him a few weeks earlier.

I went into surgery Jan. 16 at the Hospital for Special Surgery. My doctor performed an ACL/PCL reconstruction, along with a high tibial osteotomy. The rehabilitation process was estimated to be approximately six months. I was non-weight bearing for six weeks on crutches, lying in a hospital bed in my basement. I never thought I would be able to walk correctly again.

I was given the “ok” to start active rehab for my knee. I was told it would be six weeks before I could even walk without my crutches, but by my four-week checkup I was walking with a cane. Michael and Sharon were so thorough and precise that my rehab was already four weeks ahead of schedule.

It's a miracle!

I lived for months with constant nagging pain in my shoulder, day and night. I was fearful of any activity involving shoulder rotation because it made the pain worse.

I now have greater range of motion and I live pain free and can do activities that I have avoided for months. Michael continued to let me push my limits only as long as I continued progressing. He knew when to make me lighten up on the therapy. This sped up my recovery and within just 3 months of PT, my shoulder feels “as good as new.” Conversely, I watched him prod more tentative patients to push harder. “Just do this one more exercise, just try this before you leave this evening.” His intuition on what muscles to strengthen and when to watch out for tendonitis was a huge factor in the healing process. I went into PT not expecting too much progress since I assumed my chronic pain was “old age” and was not the result of a surgery. I wondered how far I would ever progress. The time and effort on my part for three days a week and Michael’s uncanny ability to continually adjust my exercise regimen as well as knead out the problem knots allowed me to progress more than I ever thought. I am so excited and pleased at my progress and I hope you meet with the same success. Follow Michael's protocol and go for it! I started therapy the day after my shoulder surgery, feeling apprehensive, in pain, and with my arm immobilized in a sling. I thought I’d never progress at all, but my therapist Michael Kryagin, was an exceptional professional with endless patience who provided me with the utmost care.

Much of the year 2009 and up to May of 2010 I suffered with ever worsening left shoulder pain. In May of 2010 I needed to get an MRI on my left shoulder. What it showed was a lot of tendonitis and some smaller tears. I wanted to avoid surgery because of my job, and surgery is a long healing process.

During the time I was thinking what course to take, I heard about PRP on a couple of radio programs. So I went online to see what Platelet Rich Plasma was all about. After researching I realized this seemed the best way to go with little or no time lost from work.

My experience with Montvale Surgical Center has been a Godsend. I walked in with extreme lower back pain that I have had for years. I tried chiropractic approaches, physical therapy, acupuncture, and various other forms of healing that solved the problem of pain for a while, but the pain always seemed to come back. I thought there was nothing that could be done to diminish the pain altogether or at least alleviate it so that I may move around comfortably. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how finding Dr. Thomas has changed my life. In September 2004 I had a serious fall that resulted in broken front teeth, fractured ribs, bilateral knee injuries and torn ligaments in my neck. I went the traditional medical route, doctor after doctor, for a period of two years, finding no relief from my pain or symptoms. The only remedy the medical profession offered me was medication…

In searching the web I found Dr. Thomas under alternative therapies for my type of symptoms. I immediately called and made an appointment. I had back surgery to repair a very painful herniated disk…and after 3 months of rehab I was able to return to work. (But a few months later) the pain returned in my back so bad I could hardly put my own socks on. I then received painful steroid injections directly into my spine. This helped for about one month. The pain again returned and continued to worsen. I was advised to have a second surgery to fuse my spine.

Then a family member told me about Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic and Dr. Gregory Thomas, who explained to me how correcting the misalignment in my atlas bone would help to heal my low back problem.

I received the recommended treatment and within 2 months I was able to do everything I did before my first surgery. I just wish I knew about A.O. and Dr. Thomas before I had the surgery done. With regular treatment (1-2 visits per month) I have been able to avoid surgery and any invasive procedure for 6 years now. I have suffered with constant neck and shoulder pain since 1995, and low back pain that radiates into my left leg since 1998. I’ve taken medications and visited many different types of doctors which never seemed to remedy the pain for any appreciable amount of time.

I feel as if I have had a huge weight lifted. I have suffered from major migraines since I was a young girl. I have been to migraine clinics – specialists – trials – sleep specialists, pulmonologists – endocrinologists, neurologists – ear-nose-throat specialists, and numerous surgeries. Rounds of prednisone that destroy the bodies – I have travelled to Canada when they said there was nothing else to be done in New York.

I had trouble on the left side of my mouth. I had pain and it was difficult to open my mouth. My ENT doctor suggested I see Dr. Pilar. It was in 2008 that I started as a patient of Dr. Pilar. He made me an orthotic that I was to wear every night. Improvement came almost immediately & I now go about every 2 months to see Dr. Pilar. I do not use the orthotic every night and I feel much better.

It is now about five months after I got new treatment for TMJ and the difference is amazing. I am feeling incredibly better Most of my pains are ancient history.

I have been a patient of Dr. Mike Pilar for two months and I feel so much better and am so very happy to have found Dr. Pilar.

I have had TMJ problems for a very long time, however, my symptoms would come and go over the years. I was treated by my dentist at various stages of my life which consisted of them making me a full surface mouth guard, mainly so I would have something soft protecting my teeth since I clench during my sleep. The hope was that it would help to cut down on my headaches and jaw pain. Within the last six months, my symptoms became extremely acute unexpectedly. I had tremendous pain in my jaw causing swelling on both sides of my face. I had regular headaches, but they had increased in intensity. My jaw was out of sync and my teeth didn’t line up. I could barely open my mouth and eating was a horrible experience. Since I had never experienced such horrible symptoms, I assumed this was related to a motor vehicle accident I had two years prior in which the impact was so severe that I fractured my neck. I had hoped the “flare” of these painful symptoms would pass, but they didn’t.

Since I was in physical therapy for other injuries relating to the accident, the physical therapists tried to help my pain. Massage therapists and acupuncturists were unable to relieve it. My dentist sent me for a consultation with an oral surgeon and still no help. Right around that time, I read about Dr. Pilar in “River Town” magazine. In his article, I felt that he was speaking to me and describing my exact symptoms. I made an appointment with Dr. Pilar for the following week.

During my first visit, Dr. Pilar gave me an extensive and comprehensive evaluation, explaining my condition to me at the same time. We made an appointment for the very next day during which he made my orthotic appliance and gave me my first treatment using Direct Current stimulation. I began using the orthotic appliance when I went to sleep that evening and I felt relief the very next day. By the second day I felt a lot more relief. I would say that by my third night of wearing the orthotic, I felt 50% better and by the time I saw Dr. Pilar a week later, I felt almost 70% better. I have had weekly and bi-weekly follow up appointments and I would say today I feel about 85% better. My jaw is still healing but for the most part, I really don’t think about my jaw anymore, I feel a little bit better after each Direct Current stimulation session that I have with Dr. Pilar.

As you know, I developed TMJ when my old mouth appliance aggressively extended my lower jaw. I experienced pain on the right side of my head, with sinus headaches.

Just a note to let you know that my visit to your office 2 months ago proved to be very positive.

Since I started to use my customized orthotic mouth appliance, I noticed that there is quite a change in the number of Tinnitus occurrences. They are becoming less and not as severe as prior to my treatment. I want to thank you for your help.

I just wanted to thank you and Dr. Parnes for inviting me to the Women Rock event at the Florentine Gardens. My colleague, Diane and I were thrilled with the spirit of giving we felt in the room that night.

We are very interested in improving the lives of women in the community, specifically those living with breast cancer.

I knew 17 years ago when I would see you for my visits that you were just brilliant. It amazes me when I calculated the years how fast time really does go. I came to see you actually for my yearly visit and that was it. I didn't realize anything could be done for the symptoms I was having because two years ago I was told nothing is wrong you have to deal with this for about ten years.

Well, as you were so positive in your response that you can fix this and we removed my IUD. I wanted to tell you that, I have not had night sweats in three days, I lost 4 pounds probably water weight, and I haven't been bleeding, face and body swelling has reduced so much. I feel like I just delivered a baby and my body is returning back to normal.

I want you to know that your diagnosis and brilliant medical care is what impacts change and helps so many. I don't know how to thank you or what I can do to thank you. I wake up and just think of you that's how much different my life has become.. I tell everyone about you.

I saw you last spring for menopausal problems. I was getting too many hot flashes in a day. You had asked me about the BRACA test. The following day I sent my report to my gynecologist as well as my breast surgeon.

I thought it was going to be an outpatient procedure to remove my tubes and ovaries. However, in recovery, the doctor advised that I actually had ovarian cancer. I just completed my sixth and final chemo treatment last Friday. I was fortunate that it was just Stage II.

I am so grateful for you insisting on the seriousness of the test. I had held onto it too long without sharing it with my doctors. So, I owe you a great big thank you. I feel that I am starting with a clean bill of health in 2012.

I started gaining weight regularly after I turned 50. My midsection really spread out. I tried to diet and exercise but nothing seemed to work. I called Dr. Parnes at Informed Female to setup an appointment. Dr. Parnes asked me some pointed questions and I felt for the first time someone had really listened. I was scheduled for blood work and one week later was put on medication for my insulin resistance. I also met with Nancy Knee, the nutritionist who started me on a low Glycemic diet. The weight has been melting off. I am eating things I love to eat and made only slight adjustments to the foods I had been eating. Each month, I identify a new set of “fat” clothes to give away and I have never felt better about myself.

Pictures were taken on my 50th Birthday, I was miserable to be 50 and to look like this, increasing weight gain without explanation. I had always eaten “healthy”, but too much healthy, but the weight kept coming on, and all efforts to lose… failed, the weight and bad cholesterol skyrocketed.

I thank my lucky stars the day I “failed” the 2 hour glucose test and started the Insulin Resistant Weight loss and Management program. The medication along with a revised “healthy diet”- more protein, less GOOD carbs and increased daily walking has help to shed 34 lbs and 2 full dress sizes. I feel human and healthy again.
