Scoliosis is a condition that causes an abnormal curvature of the spine, often resulting in pain and discomfort especially in the low back. Scoliosis affects between 5 and 7 million people in the United States, and over half a million visits are made to doctors’ offices each year for evaluation and treatment. Although scoliosis can develop at any age, it is most often found in adolescents between the ages of 10 and 15. Scoliosis can be inherited, so children whose parents or siblings are affected should definitely be evaluated by a professional.
At Montvale Health Sport + Spine, we begin with a physical examination and a thorough evaluation of your medical history. If we find curvature indicative of scoliosis, we continue with a more in-depth evaluation that may include imaging and a search for birth defects, trauma, or other factors that could be the root of your scoliosis.
